The Varsity Boys Basketball Spartans had another successful season. For the third straight year, the boys captured the AAA Visser Trophy. The provincial tournament was played at Alexander Galt with teams from Galt, Heritage, Massey-Vanier, Quebec High, Stanstead College. The boys were undefeated in their opening games, facing Quebec High in the final and winning 72-52. Jamal Mayali, who was outstanding all season, earned 41 of those points and was named tournament MVP. In January, the Spartans won the Vic "Smooth" Ajula Memorial Tournament at Dawson College in Montreal. SC defeated host Dawson 79-73 in the final to win the four-team tourney. The team also won the BCS Invitational.
Junior Boys
Overall, we had an excellent season. We were 11 wins and 4 losses. We dominated our "league" and were very competitive in our tournaments. Highlights included placing second in the BCS Tournament where we played against a very big, talented St. George's team in the finals; we hod two great games against KS, and we went to the provincials where we discovered how tall and athletic the Montreal teams really are!! I would like to thank Mike bang for all his hard work this year as captain and team leader and congratulate him for earning the Sportsmanship trophy and a Junior S. Ben, Andrew, Carson and Thomas were an integral part of this team and were very helpful by providing a stronger defence to practise against. Many thanks for all your help this year. Michael, Bill, Peter: all relative rookies to the game. They practised hard all season and improved significantly. They all got some much needed experience this year, and I appreciate their effort. Tyler, Gouyao and Tim who made the transition to the faster, more physical Junior level of basketball and participated very well indeed. Michael,Nick and Diego: were the engines who would grind out points, play hard on defense and were always positive. They came with good skills, improved all year and made a significant impact on the court. Many thanks for a great season.
