Senior Girls
To put it bluntly, this season kind of stunk. Now, while this may sound a bit negative, I do not mean it that way. I am merely trying to be honest as I can about a season that frankly could have gone better. It stinks to lose way more games than you It stinks to play the majority of your games at 7:00 pm or later. It stinks when you struggle to get everyone on the same page. It stinks to lose a game by the largest margin of your career. Yes, all of these things stink, but not every season can be all rainbows and unicorns! The take away here is to stay positive in the face of adversity, to strive to get better every day, to ENJOY THE CLIMB! So let's take a quick look at OUR climb this season:
- The Beast Bucatel scoring 25 points and pulling down 16 rebounds in a dominant performance against the dreaded Bears from BCS
- Andrey A. raining down threes in his expensive shoes
- Hadley
- The FASTEST guy on the team?
- Alexis and his Shish -Taouk
- Ryan the future is bright" Young
- Gage trying to dunk at every opportunity he has
- James and the Pea-Coat Prophecy
- Lucas sleeping until after 1:30 pm on a Saturday game day
- needless to say he was not on the bus when it left at 1;35 pm
- Nico and his constant improvement day after day; I really wish I had another year with this young man
- Yoshi constantly looking astonished and amazed
- Q, quite possibly the kindest person on the planet, always apologizing
- Tyler or should I say Sonic the Hedgehog, trying to do everything at a 1000 miles a minute
- Henry taking his managerial duties to a new level by washing the team uniforms in the laundry room of the hotel at the CATS tournament at Ridley College.
And finally, who could forget the Anderson Tournament and the NBA 2 Ball Champion: [crowd chants] Richard Pan, Richard Pan, Richard Pan.,.! What a wonderful moment and an outstanding way to end a challenging season. Seniors, thank you for your hard work and dedication and good luck in all of your future endeavours. Returning players, get in the gym!

Junior Boys Basketball round up
The junior boys basketball team, coached by Simon Winquist with managers of Peter Cai and Fred Migneault, started the season rough. The three first games they played were losses, however, after two new players were added to the team, Justin LaForce and Michael Wu, the season started to move in a different direction. The junior boys played a home game against BCS shortly after the addition of these two players; in a thrillingly close game the two teams were tied at the end of regulation. The Spartans managed to pull out the OT win by one point, earning themselves their first win of the season with a score of 25-24. They continued to win games until the rematch with BCS came, after another close game, BCS managed to close out the game with one more point than SC, mirroring the first game and finishing with a score of 31-32. The junior boys have worked extremely hard and will hopefully close out the season strong. Considering the large number of new players, they have proven themselves resilient against taller and more experienced opponents.

Athlete of the week: Andrei Bucatel
At the risk of hyperbole, Andrei Bucatel was a monster this past week vs perennial rival BCS, a man amongst boys. Dominating in all aspects of play inside the paint, he recorded a rare double-double with 24 points and 12 rebounds. Clearly in the zone, with neither the time nor the inclination to complain about calls or referees, Andrei played the best game of his Stanstead College career, helping to defeat a very strong squad with a hard-nosed, aggressive, big-man game. Now that he has raised the bar, it will be exciting to see what Andrei will do the rest of the season – the sky is the limit!

D2 Boys fight hard
The Senior Boys Division 2 team of Stanstead College had an impeccable start to their season by defeating a local school, Salesian 54-46 in their home opener. The team was boosted for their season, working exceptionally hard in their practices and putting in work. Unfortunately, a few games were lost, but the team kept their heads up and prevailed.
“I believe we can make it through the season with a good record and do very well in the playoffs maybe even winning it all or make it to the finals depending on who we play in the early rounds off the playoffs and not playing on off the top teams and draining all of our energy on them.” -Gage Larkin
The team travelled to their local rival BCS for a tournament on January 25th. The team lost their first game to CVR 38-29. However, in their second game, the team won 29-21 against St. George A, and won their last game 55 -32 against Saint George B. Stanstead’s highest point game was 55 points, which was a pretty big accomplishment. At that tournament the team lost in their first game against CVR but ended up taking 2 straight wins and winning the consolation finals. Hopefully, as the season continues we can build our team chemistry and pick up some more wins on the road to get us to the playoffs. This is where our hard work and determination can finally pay off.
Overall, our season started off rough but with our 3 game win streak and winning the last 4 out 5 games we can use this as a boost of confidence and win our next game against Galt, rumoured to be a very big and aggressive team that plays tough basketball. If we can win that, we have the confidence that we can beat any team in our league. Overall, the team is trying to improve their work ethic and communication on and off the court. The team aspires to win the playoffs and to hopefully improve as the season moves along. The players are proud to wear the name they represent on the front of their jerseys and look forward to the competition in their future games.
“The team is working hard and trying their best in the games. Even after the disappointing ones, we still work hard and try to do better in the upcoming games” -Hadley Forbes
