(From the Stanstead College yearbook)
After a first season in our ETIAC league in 2018 with a roster of 13 players, we started this season with 24 players signing up. Why such a boost in the number of players? Because we had this year the best coach in the Eastern Townships, Mr. Winquist, who brought tremendous knowledge and experience to our growing program. We had a wonderful start to the season with a clinic by Randy Garrett, a lacrosse guru.
What a defensive crew we had this year! Our 3 goalies: Marc-Antoine Mailhot for five-and-a-half games, Will McEvoy for two games in Ontario. plus Marc-Antoine Ducharme, for a game and a half and our first and only shut-out in Stanstead lacrosse history.
In nine games, we gave up 19 goals to the other teams; an average of 2.1 goals against per game is absolutely outstanding for lacrosse. Congratulations to our defensive line-up. You did an amazing job, especially our fortress: Todd Northgrave, Dante Pellegrino and Isack Bandu.
Our destructive offensive dimension scored 70 goals in nine games - 7.77 goals per game: 21 for Caleb Goudreau, 10 for Jeremy Tremblay, 8 for Martin Lefebvre and Sean ChiIsom, 4 goals each for Tyler Vosinek, Dalton Neelon and our rookie Devon De Vries. And, of course, 2 goals for Gage Larkin, Will McEvoy, BJ Roy, and his first epic goal by Zach Stephens!
Thanks to everybody who was a part of this great season. We met with Mr. Van Dyke at some point to discuss the future of lacrosse. and as he said, there is still room for improvement, but this season was a much better one in terms of discipline, general behaviour and the being true to the reputation of Stanstead College athletics. We want to thank everybody who helped upgrade our young program in this fifth season of lacrosse at Stanstead College, and we think that it is an excellent set-up for the development of such a beautiful sport.

Lacrosse Spartans make history in Peterborough
After a strong season debut in their home league, the Stanstead lacrosse team travelled to Peterborough Ontario for the Crestwood Lax Fest. The games were shorter than what the team was used to as they were only made up of two seventeen minutes halves. The squad had one goal in mind: do better than last year’s performance (4 losses).
The first game was against the host and favorite team of the tournament, Crestwood Lacrosse. After a tough but hard-fought game, the Spartans lost 7-4. But the team did not give up. In the second game, the team had to play the Lasalle Knights from which they stole the game 6-1. The goal of not giving up was accomplished but the tournament was not over.
For the last qualifying game, Stanstead had to face the Paul Dwyer school team and won 6-0. This was the first career shutout for second goalie William McEvoy who was very happy of his accomplishment. This win placed the Stanstead Lacrosse Spartans in the Bronze Final to play the Holy Cross team.
Twenty boys and one girl were ready to face their strongest opponent yet. After a very powerful start to the game, the Spartans were up by 4 at halftime and managed to keep the score in their favor by finally winning 7-2.
Coaches Luc Charest and Simon Winquist were very proud of their team’s performance: “ 3 games! We won 3 games! That is a great improvement from last year, I’m very proud” said coach Charest. “We got the bronze and everyone played very well. Everyone.” said Coach Winquist. The team captains, Sean Chisolm, Caleb Goudreau, Tyler Vosinek and Martin Lefebvre lead their team to victory by accumulating a total of 20 goals out of the 26 that were scored. A record for the team in Peterborough.

Athlete of the week: Martin Lefebvre
This week’s Athlete Of The Week is fast, tough and selfless.
Although he has blazing speed on the lacrosse field, Martin Lefebvre does not shy away from doing the dirty work, whether it means fearlessly gaining possession of ground balls (which is critical for success in lacrosse), or setting up his teammates for pretty goals. A team captain who helped lead his team to a huge win over BCS this past Homecoming weekend with 1 goal and 4 assists, his ceaseless work ethic in practices and games has brought his game to the next level. No one covers more ground during a game than he does. A Spartan through and through, congratulations to Martin for being named this week’s Athlete Of The Week!
