(From the Stanstead College yearbook)
When I think of this swim season three words spring to mind: "Small But Mighty!" Although we were small in number, I cannot think of a year when we have been mightier in spirit, mightier in heart, and mightier in compassion. Every practice, every competition, every swimmer seemed to shine with some sort of spirit. Not concerned with individual gain, our swimmers put each other before themselves on countless occasions.
Oftentimes I heard, "Miss, let me swim another race. We need the points." It did not seem to matter that these athletes had already swum five races. When we needed someone to give up their race to let another swimmer have the chance to compete for the first time, there was no hesitation.
At competitions it didn't seem to be enough just to cheer for each other. It was Stanstead Spartans who continually encouraged swimmers from ALL schools, it was Stanstead Spartans who could be seen standing on the edge of the pool boosting the last swimmer from Galt to keep going.
Congratulations, swimmers! And thank you for a truly inspirational season. You wore your Stanstead colours with pride, you gave your hearts and souls to each other, and you showed the true meaning of compassion. You made me truly proud to be part of the team!
