This was the first track team at Stanstead College in 23 years. Coincidentally, we had 23 members on the team. Thanks to our outstanding assistant coaches Dugie Ross with distance runners and Natasha Mosdossy with hurdlers. Track is about setting individual goals and trying to improve on them in each practice and in each contest. We had two invitational meets, one in mid-May and one at the end of May. Among six teams in mid-May, Marianne Picard had a first- and second-place finish running in senior events as a junior; Julia McLennan had a second-place finish and James Chadwick a third-place finish. At the end of May invitational, the girls team finished 4th of 18 teams. The team hopes to expand into field events as the interest and commitment grows in future years. Thanks to all participants in 2018!

Athlete of the week: Marianne Picard
Running for the first Stanstead College track team in 23 years, Mariane Picard seized the opportunity to represent herself, her teammates and her school with determination and guts in two grueling running competitions this past week.
The Grade 9 student from Repentigny, Que. approached the first starting line of the season with a look that says, "Nobody will beat me, and I will leave it all on the track." And at the sight of the smoke leaving the starting gun, she hit her top speed and never looked back, finishing in 2nd place in the 800m and 1st place in the 400m at the senior level, even though she’s only in Grade 9! Congratulations, Marianne, for being this week’s Athlete Of The Week!
