While many of the athletes on the team didn't really share my love of running, what we did have were a lot of runners interested in showing improvement throughout the season, and some did. We participated in 4 ETIAC races and a select few also sacrificed their free time on weekends to participate in two optional RSEQ meets. Highlights of the season included: weekend trips to the RSEQ meets, where competition was tough and tension was high; interval and bodyweight training, everyone's favourite...; our bus breaking down on our first trip of the year, having an hour and a half long pit-stop at McDonald's; and of course Daniel's cross at the finish line at the finals at BCS, with the crowd cheering him on as he come around the corner walking... making him in fact, run, as he finished 10 minutes later than the second to last runner before him...but he finished in style!

Athlete of the week: Maxwell Mayer
Maxwell Mayer of the cross-country running team is always competitive and focused on the task at hand. He never gives less than 100%, he puts in extra time after practice and he has cemented his place as the top runner in our senior boys program. He blew away the competition in the first ETIAC race at Massey-Vanier, not only finishing first but with nobody within reach, or even sight, of him! In the other two competitions, both of them RSEQ meets against elite competition, he still finished in the top 30% of runners in his category, holding his own against runners who have been competing for years. Even though he gets nervous before every race, this Grade 10 student from Munich, Germany is a coach’s dream, with a great attitude and a desire to always perform better. Congratulations, Maxwell!
